128kw at the fly with 20% drivetrain loss and your looking at around 102kw atw. I agree with Hawk, 90 or so KW at the wheels and 110kw at the fly for a 10 year old car is fairly decent.

I believe after a service and a few changes that you will closer to the 100kw mark, around 95-98kw atw is my guess.

i've always been curious as to where that loss over the 10 years go...? like i mean, would it be incomplete combustion/reduced from wear on rings? or generally worn out parts or what?

as the engine ages u lose compression which i guess would be where power is lost

Whoa..I didn't know the 128 was at the fly! Damnit why do our VR6's keep sounding less good?! I should just go buy a corolla, it'll chew up half the fuel and still compete hahaha

yeah... but it would be a Corolla...

    ...and it wouldn't sound like a VR6...

    Blasphemy!!!

We still have fun in our VR's dont we? When we have fun does the KW output really matter

It is good to know what other VR6's out here are putting out tho. I plan to stick mine on the dyno hopefully next week sometime when the new air flow sensor is in.

It just a curiosity thing for myself

Exactly. 90wkW is not so bad anyway. A 2.0 16v Mk3 is around 80-85 and they're rated at 110kW at the flywheel.

I would say your figure is about spot on - there're plenty of other muppets crowing about high figures and their cars absolutely suck. One of our hot-n-cold customers here had his car 'tuned' by a local workshop and came back crowing about 285kW at the wheels (with a dyno sheet to prove it): the car is a 2003 Corolla with a T25 turbo (yes, a circa 160kW turbo!!) and stock injectors, plus one in the throttle body - also setup by his mate at the other workshop, who believed he had done an awesome job

This is just one example of dodgy dynos, but I could go on forever, so if your car drives well and you like it, who really cares

I've never placed much stock in dyno figures either, good to check improvements in hp when you make mods etc but it's what you feel in the seat of your pants that makes it fun

That's my philosophy right there! I see dynos as a tuning and dianostic aid, not some sort of recreational pastime.

Hey, that was my car! The day was quite hot, around 30 degrees or so. I was disappointed at not getting over 100kW at the wheels.

However, my engine is pretty young, being replaced when the previous owner smacked the sump, bent the oil pick-up and the res it history. At the time, the engine had about 80,000 km on it as opposed to the 180,000 km on the odo. Also, I was running 98 octane 10% ethanol blend, and I have a K&N panel filter.
