So I was going back to my parents place this weekend to catchup with a few people, go for a surf, and have a poke around with the vento (rear brakes and control arm bushes).
After a quick phone call with thestu it was decided he would tag along for the weekend and we would get some more work done on the car.
So after filling it with water we found a rather large leak between the sensor housing and the head. This then turned out to be a stripped bolt in the head and the housing not sitting flush on the head as it was fowling on another bolt. After wasting a few hours digging through dads garage and some custom on the spot tooling (a couple of these have been used on the car now), we managed to get the housing bolted up and not leaking.
Then that lead to the brakes and clutch, after trying to bleed the brakes on and off for a while we realised the the two rear brake nipples were jammed up with rubbish. quick clean out and a run into town to buy a bleeder a bit more advanced then a piece of fish tank hose and we had it sorted.
This then put us back inside the car trying to work out why the electrics were playing up. we believed it to be a simple grounding problem causing lack of lights, cluster, fans etcetc. after some testing and swapping we werent having much luck, a simple google search lead to a thread on vortex with the answer to our question.
with exhaust on (neighbours were not happy even though they live 200m+ away) and some tidying up it was ready for a test drive further then in and out of the garage. Lucky for us Stu drove it up to the house first on the sealed driveway as it reviled a not very tight back wheel and a missing bolt on both sides holding the rear control arm bush and subframe to the car!
After some jacking, levering, and basically dropping the golf shell on the ground to get the remaining bolts we were on our way.
it was now dark so a sneaky lap down the road (private of-course...) with no lights was as far as we could go.
I think the VR swap, aerial delete, phase 1 grille, kayne shades, and all clear indicators are a good start
Hopefully can get the running and rolling vids off stu so I can upload them here.
few interior tidy ups, working headlights, and other bits and bobs and itll be ready for the drive to melbourne, and road worthy preparation begins
