so upon further inspection the master looks ok. just a conveniently placed clean spot on the body that made me think it was leaking.
now thinking slave cyl or clutch fork. hopefully going to get my hands on a reinforced fork and do the V5 gearbox swap with a new slave all at the same time.
thanks to woody and dart for helping me limp it to a near by warehouse. was fun with basically no clutch.
my euro plate holders finally arrived. no more swapping the holder from the bora every time I want to take it for a spin. they are a bit chunky compared to my other ones but hopefully the rear number plate lights arent blocked by it too much
started working on one of the first sets of wheels for the vento too.

tried to bleed the clutch with the help of thestu only to find a solid pool of fluid leaking from the bellhousing.
back today and threw the vento on the hoist to start pulling the gearbox off. removed the slave and sure enough it fell to pieces in my hands. that explains that!
Going to send the driveshafts off to get some fresh boots fitted while they are unbolted. maybe new wheel bearings up front too while its in the air

box off, not after a massive battle with the hard to access bolt next to the oil cooler.
V5 box on. new slave and thrust bearing thanks to Dean at Volkwerke.
new bearings to be pressed into some spare spindles I picked up from Jarred. lots of rust inside the passenger hub currently on the car.
On closer inspection one drive shaft looks ok. other shaft had a split boot and the other end was well on its way. going to send both off to be looked at while they are out.
big thanks to thestu for all the help pulling and installing the box.

driveshaft off for a refurb only to be told it was about 15-20mm to long for some reason.
the other shaft I got from Jarred appeared to be the correctly length or even slightly shorter so had new CV rubbers put on that.
that lead to finding a pretty rusty and crusty wheel bearing on the passenger side.
so new bearing and spindles i picked up from Jarred also were shipped off to Boris at Volkcare to have them pressed in.
when I went to install everything the tie rod ends appeared to be well stuck in the spindles, lucky there was some new ones sitting at home ready to go so I installed them while I was at it.
Straightened the rear section of the exhaust while it was on the hoist which has reduced some of the knocking.
Will hopefully book in a wheel alignment this week and just need to sort out a metallic scratching sound that has appeared since doing the swap.
Hopefully no more issues so I can get the coils in and some wheels on

Coming together nicely dude. Looking forward to seeing it around the place (and people looking confusingly at it and probably calling it a Magna).

Cheers! it is a Magna, what do you mean.
You need to take it for a hoon when I've sorted all the bugs

wheel alignment done.
starter motor has gone, had to push it off the hoist and roll start
drives much better. still lights up the old toyos once it gets to 3k in second.
still has the metallic noise. will check it out over the weekend.

starter motor seems to be working touch wood. last 6 starts have been on the key.
found some of the noises. front left brake shield was touching the rotor and for some reason the front left braided brake line seems to be under load and appeared to have been making contact with the drive shaft.
I plan to swap the rear calipers, pads and rotors soon so will re position the line and do a full brake bleed soon. for now a few cable ties have kept it from making contact.

Did a drive to the northern suburbs to pick up a cup kit thanks to sneaky pete.
Hopefully bring it down a touch while firming it up and I can throw the new strut top bushes in to stop the horrid clunking from the rear
Does approx 3k rpm in 5th at 100km/h so similar to what it was doing in 4th with the VR6 box in. Will be needing a tdi fifth gear for sure
