    Which Drive Axle

Hi. Under the car over the weekend and discovered both CV rubber boots split on the drivers side axle (the longer one) and grease thrown everywhere.
    Passenger side looks good.
Therefore decided I might just exchange drive axle completely and be done with it as i don't know how long its been like that other than its quite dirty.

However, Bently manual lists 5 different types of axle according to CV joint types.
Can anyone tell me how to tell which one I have?

The car is the 1.8litre injected petrol 1997 CL Golf.
The differential end of the axle is attached by allen keys to the diff hub. I can see from the manual that is one difference mentioned, but it doesn't go far enough to be sure which of the five types it will be.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi.
I was able to obtain a complete new (not reconditioned) drive axle for $173 so it seemed a lot easier to simply do a swap than a remove, clean, rapack, new boots and replace.

In doing so, i discovered that the engine is a 2 litre as well with eng# AGG - bonus! We were sold it as being a 1.8litre.
(I don't know Golfs very well this one being our first, so I'm a bit embarrased).
119,000 klms on the clock. CL with everything except sunroof. Perfect interior although headlining is just beginning to come away in one spot. One rear window not working but I'm pretty sure its power related - not mechanical.
This drive axle and one rear engine mount to do.
Tiny little bit of rust at sill inside rear door opening (every second Golf we looked at had the same - must be a seam or something there).
Rego to December. $5100. Its not the bargain of the century, but not too bad either for a Sydney car I think.
