    Door Cards

I'm toying with the idea of re-trimming the door cards in my VR, but never having done this sort of thing before I thought I should try a practice before I attack one of my cards.

So, the plan is to procure door card in decent nick so if it turns out well I don't have to redo it on a good card.

    There in lies the next questions;

Is there such a thing as door cards in good nick, but with a bad finish, ie perfect for recovering? Or are they simply good or not? This then leads to the next question, if all goes well with the practice card and since my current cards are in good nick, should I pull them out and sell them onto someone else then buy some poor finish cards, or should I just re-trim the current ones?

Whats a single door trim worth? (for my practice)
Whats a full set of cards worth? (If I replace all my cards)

    (Hopefully that all makes sense).

    this is my current WIP
I currently have a vice grip instead of a door handle - LOL

Makes sense, depending on price, I'd consider buying some cheapo door cards and re-trimming them before taking you current ones out.

Door cards would cost between 300-400 to be re trimmed depending on the quality of the fabric by an auto upholsterer.

I'd do them myself frankly, also consider that leather is anywhere between $57-$80 a sq m, and you have to buy them in hides as well...

The plan is to do it myself, which is why I want a "practice card"

Surely Matt would have something lying around.

practice with calico or something cheap, and get a template/system going, and then splash out on the exxy stuff.

that's what I'd do anyways. mk 1 door cards are so much simpler thou!

Yeah, I'm planning on dropping by at the end of the week for a look see when I have a day off.

The plan is to pull apart the card and see how it all goes together and see what my options are. Then get some decent materials and try to do it right the first time, the amount of materials required for one door shouldn't be too much, even if I do screw it up (or not like the look) so I'm prepared to at least try.

What do you reckon? Carbon Fibre contact over the whole thing??

    hahhaha

I'm geussing the rest of you're interior is black, so I reckon stick with black, but go somethign with a different texture. Or something with a pattern, that is predominately black.

Unless you have a theme colour., but then again, no.

I have a theme, till now it has been very black and very OEM+ Something I want to continue, but I am considering a few small splashes of colour.... which is half the idea behing a spare door card, I can experiment without destroying the car. If it sucks, I can simply not continue.
