Do you use premium fuel for your VR6?

Didn't really find anything when searching, so I'm just curious to find out whether you guys use premium fuel for your VR6. I know it's recommended to use 95 octane, I'm just wondering if anyone has found any improvements. I'm only almost 18 so it's going to be harder for me to afford premium fuel, but I will if it has some benefits/if normal unleaded will be damaging.

    Cheers

I've always used 98 in all my cars. I do a lot of highway driving and I definitely get about 40ks more out of a tank in my vr though. I think it just makes my car a bit happier too.

I always use 98, cost increase over a tank is only about $5, engine seems nicer on it.

With a VR6 I think 98 is a must. If you have to buy 95 use some octane booster but as others have said put the good stuff in.

i have a 2L GL and i still only use BP 98, its the only thing that ever goes in it and also my mrs 02 corolla, both get at least 50-100km more per tank easily, its well worth the little extra plus car runs better on it

yep, BP 98 only for mine. the occasional tank of caltex 98 is alright too i find. Seems to like the change every now and then. It runs like ass on shell 98 and i havent even tried anything other then 98 except for a few litres of what i assume was the cheapest **** when the RACQ had to come fill me up once

I think i read somewhere that the recommended 95 is the equivilant of 98 here in australia due to different petrol standards or something anyway, but don't quote me on that

Yeh thats right euro 95 is equivalent to our 98. They have 102 aswell so not fair.

There are places you can source 102 if you're really keen, although it's more expensive and probably overkill for daily use considering price and availability, but something I keep thinking I should try for giggles

Like everyone else I have only ever run 98 in my VR6, even the previous cars only run on 98 since you would always get more km's per tank that way. I haven't re-run the calc's in lots of years but it used to work out that the extra cost was 100 - 110% cancelled out by the extra distance meaning it was no more or less to use 98 and you got a better fuel
