Do all GLs have central locking

A friend of mine has just bought a petrol 1994 1.8 GL. He says it does not have central locking, but I reckon it does. Did they all have central locking? If so I suppose the vacuum or pipes have failed. So where is the vacuum pump located and anyone know how much to replace it?

Yeh afaik even CL's had central locking. The vacuum pump is in the boot and makes a low hum sorta sound. As for cost i have no idea.

    I've never heard of a 1.8 1994 GL...

My early 94 GL has vacuum operated central locking, and it was one of the first Mk3's sold on the Australian market... I would assume the spec level could only go up from there

As peedman said, if it makes a low humming sound coming from the boot when you lock the drivers door, then the vaccuum pump is most likely still working, and you have a leak in the system. If you can't hear the hum, the motor may not be getting power, or the central locking switch may not be working (this is the case on my passengers side door).

    Hope you get it sorted...

Get ready a new one is expensive get one from a wreckers should be under $200. Pump is located in the boot r/side. It can also be that one of the air lines has fallen off in the door where it conntects to the lock, this would cause a loss of pressure. Try activating the central locking whilst listening to the pump, if it makes a noise check the lines.

There's one in the Cordoba I'm wrecking (See the for sale section.)as well as all the vacuum lines and solenoids. PM me if you're interested in any of the bits.

All working OK when I took the car off the road a week or so ago.

Could be that the sensor in the door is broken/disconnected. thats what was wrong with mine. the barrel in the drivers door was playing up and causing the car to lock and unlock on its own. the dealers solution was to disconnect the sensors in both doors.
