Thanks mate! should be able to give it a go this weekend thanks.
Actually no. There are two gloves which light the guages. You do not need to unplug the cluster. Just unscrew the 2 screws on either side of the cluster, assuming you have taken the plastic surround off at this stage. I suggest using a magnetic screwdriver because you will (well I did) lose a screw down into the underpart of the dash. Once you have taken out those 2 screws grab the top of the cluster and bring it out towards you and down. On the top of the cluster you will see the 2 globes mounted on a white strip of plastic. If you cant undo them with your fingers (anti-clockwise) then use a pair of pincer pliers. Most of the time they are just loose or dirty and lose contact with the board. The part number is 47762 if the shop stocks NARVA items. I had to go to 3 auto places before I found them at an auto electrician.
Hope this helps.

Fixed it up last night, cheers for the tips, turns out they were just loose or the connection wasn't good as they come on after i had attempted (unscuccessfully) to pull them out. Only managed to drop one screw in to the dash too!
Had to drive to Canberra last week at night tailgating people that were doing about the speed limit haha!
thanks again,

hey quick question...
does any1 know how hard it would be to change all lights to the colours of the mk4 dash?? Is it possible??? i think it looks way betta than...green.
!!
Whilst i do like my green, i too think it deserves a facelift for something newer..

OK, so more pictures will explain this.
I will assume everyone can pull their cluster out and end up with this:
Turn it around:
This is where the TWO bulbs go for the lights on the speedo and tachometer:
You can carefully work the clips off and hinge the white part back:
Underneath you will find a green piece of plastic which diffuses and colours the white light of the globes:
Using a knife or a fien screw driver you can pull this off:
To re colour your cluster you can either replace this plastic bit with another plastic bit in the colour or your choice (Chellophane stuck to a heavier plastic?) Or you could use model paints on plastic (or the bulbs themselves)... well at least for red and orange since I know you can get "clear" coloured paint for painting tail lights in models
I have seen mods where people have drilled lots of holes across the white section and hot glued in a number of LED's (in the colour of your choice) then wired them all back to the two steel rails. Your only limted by your imagination!
