Dance of death clocks

Anyone ever managed to fix Golf 3 or Seat Clocks when they stop working?

Usually the speedo pulses, but does not work and the rev counter does not work.

Curiously the tacho and temp and fuel do still work. I reckon its something inside the clocks, but wondered if any of you electrical gurus might have an idea what.

do a vag on it while moving, do you get a speed in it?

probably a faulty vss!
