Daily Mk3 Golf - Wide. Low. Slow.

So about a year or so ago I purchased a Mk3 Golf as a daily driver so I would stop spending obscene amounts of money on cars.

It looks like it has only taken me a year to forget it. I was looking at getting rid of the golf and spending some money on a new GTi or BMW M3.

I have however taken the common sense path and realised that I live in the city and drive my car on the weekends only and have no need for obscene toys outside of what I already have... So I figured I would entertain myself with the Mk3.

It is a beautiful little creature really, very tidy inside and only a few minor scratches. I figured I could deal with a wide n low Mk3 as a daily as it has everything I need. Aircon, Sounds System, and potential awesome looks.

So here is where she begins...

This is as she sits now. Totally stock and super tidy.

Today I have ordered a set of 16x8+15 BBS RS Replicas with 195x45R16 Tyres.

What is the best way to drop it and have it sit like a boss? I know coilovers are the best way and I have had a lot of experience with them before. Althuogh I don't really know the options available for euro cars?

    Input would be appreciated!

Good to see you've come to your senses with a mk3 ;P

There are a load of options in coilovers for mk3. Most well known german suspension brands make stuff. KW, Weietc, H&R, Koni, Eibach, Bilstien, etc etc. Also worth looking at are FK and HotTuning, which are a bit cheaper. I have KW V2's myself, which are awesome but very stiff.

You getting the wheels from Otomoto?

You'll need some camber with those tyres and that offset if you plan on being low

Thanks guys. I do love the Mk3's. They are the coolest of the Golfs without a doubt. Modern features / older school looks.

Shooitt - Yes I am getting them from Otomoto haha (So cheap!) thinking about painting the centers gold depending on how they look once they're on... Only time will tell...

Anyone Heard of JOM? I have read several reviews suggesting that they are crazy good value for money for a low end non adjustable (Height only) coilover. Looking at around $400 a set from the UK!!!

I would like to go as low as reasonably possible... And yes I will be getting some guard work done and use as much as the stock camber at the front as possible. I don't mind a bit of poke and guard malestering if it is done properly.

Besides suspension and wheels, the only other mods will be some decent speakers and maybe some window tint. Just want a clean reliable awesome daily that is a bit different.

If there were to be performance mods it would be to RWD or AWD... I keep telling myself it's a daily... haha

I got my wheels from there ...Borbet A reps, check out my Vento thread. You may wanna think about some 3D decals for the Asian-ass centrecaps http://3dcarstickers.com/en/

I would recommend Weitec Hicon GT's, only cos I have them and I'm very satisfied with their performance.

Love the 3D car stickers site! BBS centers defs on the cards! Would make a huge difference to the look of those wheels... Even if it does make me a tight arse haha

I was looking at the Borbets as well! They would suite the Vento much better...

    How much were the Weitec's?

I got the weitecs from Demon Tweeks on eBay UK. Didn't cost as much as you'd think, they were under a grand.

If you want to go stupid low and don't mind a really stiff ride then JOM are ok.
I've got them in my mk2. Got mine only wound down half way and the car is sitting very low.
