    Cup holders?

It has to be the one thing that VW didn't see fit to put into the Mk3, or at least my VR6.

Is there a standard replacement part or trim piece you can add to get a cup holder? Or is there a recommended brand and mounting location?

I have noticed in pics a couple mounted to the left of the gearshift (on the passenger side) which look like it's been screwed in.

While I would prefer not to screw into the console, if thats the only option so be it. BUT before I do I want to make sure I have something that is somewhat sturdy so it won't break meaning I'm then left with holes and no cup holder.

Any suggestions, with pics if possible.

i usually jam my bottles between the slide adjustment lever and the passenger seat. Its an especially good place to keep your drink if u have a pretty girl in the passenger seat

The Americans had a cup holder piece that went into the big hole in the middle of the centre console, just in front of the gearshift. They're only suitable for coffee cups or cans though.

What do you mean no cup holders? isnt that what the door pocket is for?

nah the door pockets are for all the other crap you accumulate.
To be honest though. ive seen the cup holders the US market have and theyre pretty useless. Ive not seen a decent solution.
Coke bottles squeeze nicely between the hand brake lever and the passenger seat side bolster. You wont be doing any handbrake turns in a hurry though

This is a good question, i would really like cup holders, for when lets say you visit a drive thru and you get a drink with your meal... i usually tend to put it between my thighs and drive like i have something wrong with my man bits....

cup holders off another vehicle that could be modded to fit nice? any ideas? what about the Mk4, do they have cup holders? never been in one myself...

    cheers

I'll have to have a look, but my seats are not the original ones, they are these:

I didn't think that there was a gap that would actually hold anything there since I don't have the same bolsters as the original. Still I'll have a look anyway.

That's one thing I liked about the Elantra we had HUUGE cup holders, the Wifes outback isn't too bad either.

On the upside the Golf's compartment infront of the gear shift holds a couple of 2/3 scoop sundays from Baskin Robins securely so I can drive home

I don't usually have drinks in the car, the only time I really do is when skipping though Maccas on the way somewhere.. the door or anywhere else isn't really an option for a Maccas cup

Would be VERY interested to rig something up in the ash tray. Maybe get a spare and hack that up and see where we get to, it's not as though I smoke anymore (or would smoke in the car if I still did)./

thats exactly what I use - 600ml bottles fit in there nicely and if you drive carefully, a medium coke from maccas will squeeze in quite nicely without the lid coming off...

i'm going to have a look at that ash tray idea though, at the moment it is just a petrol receipt deposit.
