Coolant Flush

Hi all,

The coolant hose attached near the top of my coolant bottle came loose the other day so i ended up loosing a fair amount of coolant. The car had G12+ in it but I needed the car on the weekend and i couldnt get any G12+ in time so i had to top it up with normal green coolant. I've since read this is a pretty bad thing to do.

So im going to do a full flush of the system and refill with G12+. Could anyone tell me the steps involved in a coolant flush for the vr6.

To flush the coolant, I just bought a coolant system flush from supercheap for about 10 bucks and some new coolant from VW (the coolant is surprisingly cheap for how much you need!). Pour the flush into the system before starting up, and then let the car idle for however long the flush tells you to. After that, pop off the radiator coolant hose (at the bottom on the passenger side) and let it drain until it becomes really slow...then you flush the system with water. I just used my hose and poured through about....probably another 10-15L to make sure. Pop the coolant hose back on and make it TIGHT, then just fill your coolant (the system capacity is supposedly 10 litres but I didn't get that much in there, I don't know why).

Buy a new "crackpipe" as your old one will almost certainly break when you try to drain from it, Tim sells billet versions of the part needed on www.dubaddition.com.au. I have a plastic one in my car, which I ordered from the states. I personally could not fit more than 8L's inside the car when I did my flush and replace recently.

I have heard that red + green = brown sludge...

So does it?

Yes brown in colour but no not sludge. If you have sludge then something else is going on, or a LONG awaited flush reqd.
