Can you get the part number off it? I'll look it up on ETKA

Gday, yeah just wondering if anyone knows what the thing circled in red is...
I've got something weird happening with the throttle in my 1994 VR6. it's real jerky - you push slowly on the accelerator and you get nothing, then hit a point where it jumps away with a clunk.
I'm trying to work it out, and there's a bit of oil around that bit in the pic. prob not related but you never know
cheers

That looks like it's the electrical plug on the crank case vent pipe... which is actually a blank on Aussie cars and doesn't do anything![]()

yep The_Hawk, it is blank. And it aint the problem - i just pulled the whole thing out...
I found the PCV valve had split, the hose connecting it to the crank case had separated from the main body of the valve, which is why there was oil everywhere. i did the dodgy and completely removed the valve and replaced it with a straight piece of hose. i might try and replace the valve at some stage, but it might be ok temporarily... from vw you gotta buy the whole assembly from air filter to throttle body - they talk about it here

while i had that stuff off i cleaned out the throttle body a bit. then once it was back together i took it for a drive, the jerky throttle is still there... any ideas?? i was hoping it was a vacuum leak but unless there's another one then it's something else...
I'm kinda hoping you might work out whats wrong too Mrk_Mickey!

I have straight pipe in place of that valve in mine, if anything it will cause your TB to get more dirty without the valve.
Your options are:
atmospheric vent = Cheap
Oil Catch Can = a few $$
A new part from VW = $$$$
I'm leaning towards the catch can, but might just take the cheap and easy way out and go atmo vent![]()
