    Converting power windows

I was talking with my mechanic today, while he was giving the old girl a service (the first service since I've owned it...amazing what a difference new plugs and filters make!!). I was chatting to him about the dramas with power windows. His solution was to ask if anyone ever thought about reverting power windows back to manual ones. Has anyone ever tried it?

I think the biggest drama would probably be getting the right door trims, pretty sure they're different. Apart from that probably no big issues.

I believe it's been done before - Matt (Golf Loon) has said a few things about it! Come to think of it, I don't even think you'd need new door cards. Just drill your current ones, and fit on the winder? It'd be pretty funny to leave the power window buttons on there. Whenever passengers try to press the buttons: PSYCHE!

Yeah you just have to get over the ego thing of power windows as the manual ones rarely break.

You need a CL or TDI to steal the complete mechanism from.

Either use CL spec interior handles to delete the window switches, or just leave em in to confuse passengers.

I have converted 2 cars to manual winders and its satisfying that they always work and you dont need the key in the car to open em.

    kinda slightly off topic...

would a door from a CL be a match for a door from a GL?

I want to swap out my cars rear passenger door, its a bit bent.

I want to move everything from my door shell to the new door shell, the tinted windows, the inner trim - including power window bits..

I've seen a few white CLs being wrecked in trading post, but dont want to get a door that isn't going to be good for to do this.

if only rayray would sell his car for parts.. cheap..

Haha I'm not selling the car anymore mate And no one in their right mind would wreck a working car!

All doors are the same, even the VR6 ones. Only differences would be between the 2-door and 4-door models. Also, there will be differences in the side mouldings but they can be changed around easily.
