Hi fellas, 1995 Golf Tdi. I've been having an intermittent problems with the coolant level warning light and the fuel gauge, both working intermittently. The low coolant warning light seems to stay on most of the time, even though coolant level is good, and the fuel guge reads nothing most of the time, then sometimes flicks up to level for a few seconds and then dies back. Today, on the advice of my auto-electrician, I replaced the cluster with another secondhand one, and the faults remain the same. If I bridge out the sensor on the coolant tank, the problem goes away (even though this is what the sparky said he did). So my question is how does the coolant sensor work? Does it require a coolant with a particular resistance, or does it matter if it's just water (it isn't), and what else could be messing up the fuel gauge? This problem has improved recently, maybe the cooler weather? I have checked the cluster circuit board, and no obvious burn-outs or anything.....
