You can pull the guts out of a Cupra 02A box and stuff it all into the VR6 housing and get a great close ratio box. You loose top end, but gain acelleration.
Hey guys,
I'm totally sick of the taller than Jeremy Clarkson gearing in the VR6 and was wondering if there were any close ratio boxes from other dubs that would bolt up without too much hassle? Need Hammond gearing not Clarkson!
Cheers
Simon

Sounds interesting Matt, what sorta $$ would you be looking at to do that? Any hassles with the increased power on those components etc?

You could always change the final drive. although installation would cost a packet!

reduce the tyre size to have a smaller rolling circumference. the poor mans shorter diff
That's not really the right way to do it as the gear ratios are much the same. You only want the crown wheel and pinion, in which case you'd be moving from a 3.3:1 to a 3.67:1 (which itself isn't very short).
A 3.94:1 is the correct final drive for a VR6 street car: it's available easily aftermarket, or as standard on the 2.0 16v Passat GT gearbox, which has a prefix of AGC.
The other popular one is a 4.24:1, but that's getting very short in a road car.
