Also I wouldnt be too quick to blame the fella that put the outers in the disc. You would need solid proof that he has done anythingt wrong and its not hard to put them in. Not sure if he could have caused a failure there.
I had a rear bearing seize itself on a Golf once that was only 6 months old. Faulty case hardening I put it down to, I had to replace the stub axle as well.

Considering the rear bearings aren't too much money I think I might just do it again at some point...

Ray and I were going to do it all ourselves but when we got to taking the races out it took us ages and we couldn't be bothered. we got a guy down the road from me to do it (mechanic) and as far as i know he just whacked the old ones out and very roughly whacked the new ones in. it didn't look like they sat straight and we could see gaps between the races and the edge of the race seats, so we took it back for him to 'finish' and he did more but it still wasn't perfect.

Just to add to my symptoms... at 20-25km/h I get this really low vibration noise, it shakes the car and sounds like a sub lol.

Well then! Just a quick news flash

Today I had a free day (...again) so I decided to have a look at the culprit bearing. By my logic, I assumed that the crazy vibration symptom must have been because the hub itself was TOO loose. After jacking the car up, I gave the wheel a wobble and sure enough it moved much more than I thought it should. So, I ripped everything off and ''reset'' the hub, so-to-speak, making sure everything was greased up as much as my stomach could bear it (). Then after going for a drive the noise seems to have stopped! Here's hoping I've fixed it okay and it's not just an intermittent problem

We had the rear wheel bearings replaced three times in a year.
We paid for the first set and our mechanic absorbed the cost of the replacements after this. We're not sure what the problem was ,but its good now
