Calling MK3 Boffins - Electric Window Fun

    Hey Guys,

There are a million threads regarding this I know, I just want somebody with abit of 1st hand knowledge to confirm/deny.

    My Situation:

    Front
Drivers Window - Closes about half way and stops (will not close completely)
Front Passenger Window - Works Perfectly, up and down

    Rear
The actual buttons on the doors themselves do nothing, not even a noise. But when I use the buttons on the console, the following happens:

Rear Passenger (behind driver) - I have to continuously tap the button till the window is at the top, if I hold the button for more than a split second it dances and goes back down

Rear Passenger (behind passenger) - Window is constantly open and will rise an inch at most.

    Conclusion:
Drivers Window - I need new regulators
Front Passenger Window - Nothing works fine

Rear Passenger (behind driver) - I need new regulators and possibly switch
Rear Passenger (behind passenger) - I need new regulators and possibly switch

What do you think?, am I right?. If not any help would be greatly appreciated!

Lube the rubbers with silicone spray for the windows that are not going 'full mast', and see how you go.

Your rear window sounds like it has broken the plastic runner. Not a hard fix, there is a joey mod where you use a piece of small dowel (I used the tip of a chopstick)(FYI not asian). And a cable tie. Takes some wrangling, but you should find the solution in the FAQ or one of many related threads.

Sounds awesome. Haha love the disclaimer.

I'll take off all the door panels tonight after work and assess.

What's the deal with the foam insert inside the door card, are people keeping it or just ripping it off?

Just had the exact same problem with the Rears: The regulator was damaged, and internally in the motor the wire had jumped off the spool wheel and was internally spooling out, also a plastic clip that holds the wires flush against the inner door wall had snapped and the wire was loose to be snagged as the window went up, snagged and the motor automatically reversed. New reg fixed it, but after looking at the minor damage i could of patched it up.
The drivers controls for the rear has a lockout button, try that. Manually bridge it to see if its the switch, otherwise it must be in the wiring somewhere between the drivers switch and the windows.

Fronts same deal as above, the reg is damaged, this is common a small plastic stop gets damaged and can damage the motor mechanism is it gets jammed in their. I suggest a new reg, easy to install as they usually come pre wire wound.

I've done 4 regs in my Mk3, its common, and usualy the small plastic ends that fail and unspool the wire in the motor, or the motor spooler itself.

    Ahh @mattross you legend!

Was hoping to do some ghetto repairs for now to save the $300 worth of regulators I'll need lol but I'll suss it all out and repair what I can and replace what I need to.

Thanks again for the reply mate, pics speak a thousand words!

    I have a similar situation,

all of mine work & travel from fully open to fully closed positions, but some work differently to others.

The front work correctly as far as I can tell. quick press of the down button and they only move a small amount each time, a longer press & they go all the way down automatically. on the way up they only rise for a long as I am pressing the button.

Passenger side rear ,moves small amount with quick press of down button & about a fifth of the way down each time with a longer press, even if I hold my finger on the button it only goes about a fifth of the way & then I have to release & hold again, repeat until it gets to the bottom of the door. works exactly the same way on the way up. dashboard buttons perform the same way.

Drivers rear door, quick press of the button makes the window move down about 1cm and then it goes straight back to the top, doesn't matter where abouts the window is in the door. If I hold the button it will move as long as I hold the button. But if I hold it all the way to the bottom until it stops, when I release the button if then decides it's going all the way to the top again. Up button doesn't do anything.
However, this window works just like the front two windows if I use the dash board button.

I have swapped the window switches from side to side & it make absolutely no change to how they perform.

Not hijacking , just throwing some more light / info on subject (& maybe help get mine sorted at the same time.)
