    Burgundy Vento GL

    Hello,

I needed a run around car while I try and finish off my VR6 this summer

Found this Vento for a song and got it on the road today. No big mods planned, just to keep it clean and tidy it up

    I'm very happy!

Very nice. Jealous that yours requires so little work to get roadworthy. Still working on mine, coming up to 12 months of ownership.

    Thanks!

The shifter needs a rebuild/bushings, it's got way too much travel. I'm also looking for the thule fairing if anyone has the front deflector.

I tried to use the lip I had on my donor VR6 but it didn't quite align. :-/ I compared the clips and they seemed to have a different pattern. Does anyone know more?

If the manual gearshift is a bit sloppy, you are looking for a set of plastic bushings to be replaced, mine had turned to mush after 17 years of usage when I got mine done a couple of years ago.

I have a little bit of coolant dribbling out from this point:

I'm planning on doing a coolant flush when I can pick up some G12+ (that's still the right coolant?) but besides from tightening the seal down, is there anything I can do to create a better seal? e.g. Clean the rubber and metal contact with anything particular etc.

I generally find it is necessary to replace the complete black plastic flange and seal to stop the leaking.

1994-1996 use G11 coolant (blue-green in colour) while the 1997 onwards uses G12/G12+/G13 (pink/pink/purple) coolant. I understand G11 and G12 should never ever be mixed - you will end up with a brown sludge in your cooling system. I understand that G12, G12+ and G13 are all compatible with each other. I have had my 96 Vento flushed completely and filled with G12+ so that all four of my VWs run G12/G12+/G13 to simplify my logistics.
