Can someone give me a loan of an old defective coil?
I would just like to see why they fail and see if there is a temporary fix.
yeah buy it from a dealer and pay $250 or whatever they charge. it will make u feel all warm and fuzzy inside

I had the same problem with my GL when i first bought it, and found that i had water in the dizzy, and all it needed was a dry out and a spray with **** smiths electrical spray (like a solvent based water dispersant). Sometimes you cant see the water at first because it could be out of site so give it a good spray and leave it a while to dry out).
The problem i had was literally identical to what ur describing...
Hope this helps (could be a simple and cheap alternative to replacing the coilpack)
Cheers

Canadian dubs coming to VWwA soon
Its the plastic housings that crack and then they arc across the gap. I have repaired them temporarily with araldite and silicone, but they always break again.Originally Posted by syncro

If you get another dud coil Matt, keep it for me.
on that topic u can have my old coil and generator, i have had numerous problems with coils for mk3s there are two different types a solid block amp bremi coil and the newer beru type i went to hanvic puchased a bremi unit at $150 it didnt come with the generator on the back so used the old generator of the coil started ran for half a day then died i brought it home then i thought fuel pump but then realised it had no spark traced it back to the coil in the end i had to buy the newer beru one that is a complete unit for $150 stil trying to get my money back for the other oneOriginally Posted by syncro
