    Brake Disk's and Pad Recommendations

    It's getting close. I don't know that I will get another machining out of this current set so it looks like it's time to upgrade

    What's recommended these days? (approximate costs would be much appreciated too).

    I was thinking EBC Green Stuff along with some thing slotted and sexy looking

    How much have you heard about QFM pad's?
    I was originally going to replace my current pads with Green Stuff's, but was advised that they're not the most practical pad for street use (more racing orientated).
    I'm currently waiting on some (HPX) pads from GSL Rallysport, after reading many positive review's.

    I hate QFM HPX pads, and rda rotors, they make a massive howling noise whenever i use my brakes weither it be slow or fast on the brake

    mind you i can stop the car on a 5c piece there crazy just hate the noise

    if they are installed wrong then my bad (well mechanics bad) but i dont like them

    I got Bendix Ultimate of eBay from a local seller for around $40. not sure if they do ones for VR6, but they bite well, quiet, but dusty

    Break pad squeal is caused by vibration (the entire brake pad/s is moving/vibrating in its carrier/s).

    It can be caused by improper pad installation, dirty or corroded carriers/backing plates, lack of, or poor condition anti rattle plate's/clips.
    I think even some manufacturer's reccommend a paste/compoud to be applied the backing of the pad before installation.

    And if none of the above, like you mentioned, it can simply be the pads.

    woody's got greenstuff's in his car, and they're perfect for everyday driving.

    they're rated to be from the same lower temp that 'normal' pads are, but are rated to much higher 'high' temps.

    I think regardless of brand, I think and upgrade to some 'fast road' pads (green stuff or a similar equiv) and a really good flush of the brake system will be marketed upgrade & noticable difference on the old worn stuff you've probably got at the moment.

    After this weekend, I definately have a set of higher temp pads on the list of things to do. I will most probably go for greenstuff (even tempted to get red stuff) when my new calipers arrive.

    As for discs, I've often heard/read that cross drills, grooved etc etc etc are pretty much pointless unless you've got a race car, and quality set of vented (naturally) discs are all that's really nessecary. I'm not 100% what discs I'll be getting yet (as I'll be upgrading size too) but I'll probably just go for OEM or a similar equivelent from RDA or whoever.

    That just proves that I shouldn't listen to certain local opinions.

    In relation to slotted disc's, a guy who I work with put some slotted rotors (DBA) on his standard VL commy.
    He mentioned that after putting them on he noticed the pad's always seemed 'fresher' and maintained their bite with harder use.

    The only disadvantage was that the pad's wore slightly faster, but that was actually what kept the pad's 'fresher', so to speak.

    But that's on a big, heavy, commodore, can't comment on use with Golf's.

    RDA rotors (Steer clear of all that cross/grooved crap) and some EBC green stuff pads.

    I have EBC green stuff and brembo sport slotted rotors. My discs are constantly warping and its getting on my nerves. Also not a fan of the pads, they are squishy, dont stop that well and very, very dusty. Wont use em again. I'll probably try QFM or Remsa next. Will keep using brembo rotors for the time being.

    First person I have ever seen disliking the EBC green stuff pads for fast road. Many people I have spoken too and read say teh only other better pad they have run is Pagid but they cost 3x more than the EBC.
