Was impatient and went to the dealership. $42, and it doesn't fit?! Where can I get one as soon as possible?

Two different oil filters for the VR6, and you need the engine number along with the VIN to work out which is which.
$42 seems excessive for an oil filter. Did that include the petrol used to get there and back?

$42 retail price from VW wouldn't surprise me. A genuine filter for my 1.8 was pretty pricey even at trade price, was probably atleast half that though. I know theres quite a difference in trade and retail price for things like that though
As others have said, there's two filters for the vr6, sounds like you got the wrong one
The 1.8L spin-on is usually just under $20 retail, or around $15 trade.

Ah well there you go, that sounds right. Was ages ago so had forgotten. Since then I've just used non-oem ones I bought from my old work (mitsubishi dealership, which stocked filters for various cars as they serviced everything) for $3 each
Anyway sorry for going off topic a littleNot sure where a good place in Brisbane to get a vr6 filter is, when I had the vr6 I would just buy them from the US while buying other parts as they were much much cheaper. There might be a couple places around though which will sell them... Imparts in Eagle farm maybe?
edit: sorry, thought you were in Brisbane for some reason. Have no idea at all about the Gold coast. I think Dubaddiction sells the vr6 filters but youd have to wait a few days for postage and all that

I didn't have the vin, I gave him the engine code and year and he said only one came up, although when I picked it up he mentioned having another, slightly different one. So where should I go in the future?
i get mine from Tim at dub addiction
there are two types..... early vr6s have the metal endings on them where the later models have plastic endings on them, from what i can remember the later ones have a slightly larger opening on them .

T-Roc R
Tiguan R
It's supposed to be "mid 96" when the filter changes, but then it's always worth checking.
My first oil filter for my VR6 was $50+ from McGrath spare parts so that price doesn't seem unusual.

Yeah we all pay the 'scam the euro driver tax' every now and then, think I paid $40 for one once, such a wonder everyone's heading to the net. Did you lie and say it was a 1996 when all colourconcepts in oz are 1995?
