Anyway yesterday I had a notch in the front finished up for driveshaft clearance
Also got the rear wiper cut out and some metal welded in
Got this "Cult Society Clean Style" rear handle thing a while ago, it had a little chip in it so I fixed that up with some fibreglass filler and sanded it down (the original finish wasn't perfectly smooth) and hit it with some plastic primer
It relocates the lock to underneath. Was a complete bitch to install, as the instructions where in german and the pictures where vague at best. This thing has also been through a few Australian owners who never fitted it before it came to my hands, looks like someone lost some of the hardware too and replaced it with wrong bits (as in it needed 3 6mm nuts, but two were replaced with what im guessing where 1/4, which then stripped the threads of the little parts they needed to go on, so I had to figure out another way to make it all work), you have to cut up the wire pieces that connect everything and extend them, and the actual thing itself wouldn't quite fit properly without trimming a few things, and even then I had to go and buy longer screws to get it to actually fit. Anyway, it's in now and looks cool
Put a tiny bit of filler over the where the wiper was and sanded it down and hit it with some primer too, and also sanded down a couple little spots on the top of the boot where seemed to have tiny amounts of rust coming through, hit them with some rust converter and primer aswell. Also took off the rear spoiler and filled the holes with sikaflex. Paint will be done in the next week or two, when I have a few other things ready which I also want to paint
You should remove the rear badge as well before you paint it! Weld a new plate in so it's flush ad it will look really sweet and clean
YAY I got my R!!!! White, recaro seats, 19" wheels, bluetooth, reverse camera
I thought about it, it would have been easy to do while he was already cutting things up and welding them, but I decided to keep the badge. Everyone seems to delete the badge if they are going to shave the wiper, so its almost something different to do just one but not the other, and I quite like the badge anyway It's still a lot cleaner than most, have removed rear spoiler, wiper, lock, golf and CL badges and exhaust cut out is next to go, so only thing left on the back is that badge
+1 for keeping the badge !
Gonna look ace man !
Pic of your new lows ?

Thanks! Yeah I'm pretty excited to see how it all turns out, don't think I've seen the same combination as I shall be running done on a mk3 before (I'm sure it has though, everything has). Should look really clean when I get it all in paint and shave the exhaust cut out
Car doesn't sit any lower than it has been sitting for a long time. To be honest I cut the notch myself a fair few months back and had organised for someone to weld it up. That fell through though and I pretty much forgot about it until recently, so this guy just welded it all up.
Any pics of the notch?
I haven't taken any but I know the guy who did it did, they have a facebook page and post up all their work, so when they do that I'll post them photos here

Update time.
Had a few days with no work, so decided to head up to the parent's place (while they and the rest of the family are away on holidays ) in Toowoomba to get some work done in their massive Garage. Was nice to get away from everything and spend a few days alone up here.
Bought some paint and stuff, and spent way to much time getting the back perfectly smooth with a skim of filler and painting it all up. Was my first time doing real body work and painting a body panel (I've done wheels before but it is a bit different) so was a good learning experience. Considering my lack of experience and the fact I used the cheapest spray gun money can buy, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. My hatch is now glossier and has less orange peel than the rest of the car
Also sanded down the originally textured side trims and colour coded them. Wouldn't recommend this, it took a hell of a lot of time sanding and they are very far from perfect, I'd just find some that are already smooth and paint those if I were to do it again. They turned out ok though I suppose, so they will do for now.
It's really hard to photograph but as anyone who's seen the car in person at meets etc has probably noticed, my tint was pretty awful. So I removed it. Tried to take a photo of one of the big bubbles in it but it didn't really turn out.
And here are some compulsory whore pics of it all back together (well almost, Ive misplaced the VW badge, but that will go back on as soon as I find it)
And a photo of the notch
