No idea sorry but you'd be best off taking it to a VW specialist immediately (!).
Hi All,
Looking for someone to point me in the right direction.
I have a 97 Vr6 140 K's and I have a "tapping" noise that can be heard while driving over 2500 rev's.
The noise only appears after 2500 rev's. When the car is idling all I can hear is the standard engine noise. And there is no sound at 2000 rev's.
I have changed the oil every 15k. I though it might be the lifters.
It's recently been serviced and I did an engine flush. I have also added oil sterilizer. Liqui Moly was used in both cases.
During cruising speed in 5th gear at 3000 rev's the noise is quite loud and annoying.
There is another post talking about a rattling engine noise, but his sounds like it is at low rev's. Other than the noise my engine is not running rough. I'm still concerned that this could be a chain issue!!
Do these chains need to be tightened ever so often as this noise has gradually got louder over the last 15K kilometers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If there is a VW specialist on the Gold Coast that would not mind having a listen that we also help.
Cheers

It sounds like chain guide or tensioner, easier to hear the noise, if you are stuck i live near springwood, which isnt too far for you. I sometimes come down that way with my day job doing field service
