    Auxillary Water Pump

Well, mines been leaking for a little while so I thought it was time to fix it up. At least for the short term.

Since the old one wasn't working (tested after pulling it out to be sure) I replaced it with... a special "slim line" pump...

Original on the left, new on the right:

Here it in place, with the engine cover and Coil Pack removed:

    Close up:

Looks to be all good now without a leak, although I will keep an eye on it to be sure. Next order from GAP I will grab a new pump, although I haven't had any issues without a working one so we will see, but it's not like it's a hard job.

And the most important thing, the car is now faster and understeers less since I have removed some weight

Thats the best mod Hawk. The pumps are all broken on VRs and are expensive.

If you let the car idle for a minute befor turning it off when you have been flogging it, it does the same thing.

    Nice write up as usual

    From Pirtek:

Pirtek Part No: Z06011-10 - P11 5/8 Double Hose Elbow
Pirtek Part No: IHCWM16-27 - 16-27mm Mild Steel Worm Drive Clamp

When I started this I thought I would "do it right" and get some good parts so went to Pirtek. At a total of $19.78 it was a little more than I expected, but at least I know it's not going to break anytime soon

Although this replacement doesn't lose lots of coolant, it's probably worth checking the other joints and considering swapping out any any questionable sensors while your pulling things aparts, saves dumping the coolant more than once.
On that note, Pirtek also made up this joint for me after mine cracked and started leaking, at about $30 I though it was value (it's one of those commonly broken parts, so definitely worth checking yours out):

Loving the plumbing fittings on the VR6s boys.

Still, cheaper than the VW hoses and yours will never break.

You know you don't need that fitting right?

The small hose runs the heated coolant through the throttle body for cold climates, by which I mean snowing. For those of us in Australia it's not needed, if anything it's adding heat to the throttle body.

It's funny how many parts on the VR6 engine can simply be bypassed or removed
