AUX water pump? And coolant hose

Heh. Two new issues to add to my list. LOVE IT!!

That big mofo of a hose (the one that connects to the throttle body, expansion tank, engine, radiator and something else) has a split in it. The split is right next to the connection with the engine pipe. I've taped it up for now (it was dripping coolant...8 minutes would see an empty system) but I'm not sure how long that will last....does anyone have an educated estimate they can give me for duct tape on it? lol.

Second thing...I've only just noticed that when I turn my key to 'on' (accessories...all your red dash symbols are on) nothing in my engine bay makes a sound. I used to be able to hear the auxiliary water pump pumping away but now there's nothing. When the car is on, it makes a really high pitched hissing sound, and I'm not sure if that's normal. Can anyone confirm?

    Cheers guys

That big pipe is one piece and about $300 odd from VW parts, since you have the really all in one, mine has joins (half of which I have replaced) so you can get generic bits of pipe in very easily:

What you can do it take the pipe off and head to your local Pirtek (or similar) place and get them to make you one. Bear in mine you should be able to remove all piping going to the throttle body too. (although this means replacing the pipe at theback of the engine that runs to the heater core too).

As for Auxillary water pump, AFAIK it should only come on when needed, not everytime the car starts. Mine was dead and leaking so I removed it although I am considering getting one and putting it back, but I think my money would be better spent on an oil cooler

Is there such a thing as a hose connector piece? It's a bit hard to explain but I'll try...

Say I cut the last 5 inches of my hose off. Then I get the same diameter hose, new hose clamps, and put a connector in the middle (like a double-ended sort of thing) and clamped each side so it's all fixed. Do they exist?

That bit hasn't broken lol..the hose that goes into the engine body has a split right where the hose clamp is.

Yes there is, the joint you can see in my pic is actually two large connectors and one small connector all welded together to make that joint. A joiner is an off the shelf part So yeah, you could just cut and join in some new hose.

I think there's a mob somewhere in the US that makes billet aluminum versions of that joiner, bit expensive though.

Like everyone else has said once you've got that, you can just replace the hoses for next to nothing

    All done anywhoo

Seeing as the split was only an inch off the end of the hose, I just hacked the hose to the length where the split was and stuck it back on. It's screwed down as tightly as I could do it (I nearly stripped the flathead hose clamp too hahah) and after a 40 minute engine-on-idle-and-drive it didn't come off.

    Woo!
