Matt, have you got wiring diagrams? I'd be surprised if the auto loom couldn't be removed altogether back to the fusebox..
Gavin
Ok guys a hard one for you.
I just converted a VR6 from auto to manual and I cant get it to start.
I can hotwire the starter and it will start
There are 6 wires going to the auto selector and if I plug the selector into the loom and put it in park, car wont start.
If I howire the relay, it will start, but only all the time, or on the first ignition click, not the second.
I reckon either the auto lockout recieves a signal back from the auto gearbox, which it is not getting, or there are a few wires that have to be connected together at the auto selector box.
I am using the auto loom still, with just the conectors at the auto made redundant. I have the manual front loom, but I dont want to take the dash out for what is a simple circuit somewhere.
Other than that, the car is great, it drove forward and back a few feet which I call a victory.
Must sort the wiring issue, any ideas gratefully accepted.

Thanks Josh, that was a good link.
None of those suggestions worked, in the end I simply jumpered a wire from the ignition to the relay and car starts sweet as.
It moved forwards and when I went to reverse, the plastic link on the gearbox snapped, so now I need one of them. Typical.
Testdrive next week.
