From memory drive shafts are different length.
Starter motor
I have 2 vr6,
One retired manual vr6
One current driver auto....
I want to swap, but need to salvage parts from the manual before parting out.
obviously gearbox and engine etc flywheel, what other things are different. Brake master cylilnder, is there even spot for the clutch master etc.
ECU differences?? the intake already looks different.
Spaces for shifter mechanism in the auto.
my mental list is so far
engine, gearbox, coming from donor car
pedal assembly
gear shift cables + assmly
what caveats should I expect...
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Courtney

Thanks dylan..
I also read somewhere that there is a starter relay that need deleting/ bypassing - anyone got the specs on this???
I am pretty keen but it seems a much bigger job than anticipated.
If it weren't for the manuals body developing serious cancer and the darn sunroof..
Additionally the auto box has a leak which I cant quite pinpoint - plus how do we even check the levels in this - I used carports free diagnostics and there were no reported errors.
I have a kkl vag cable but I cant seem to find good free software to diagnose. Any suggestions???
might be tie to just bite the bullet and teardown the manual and do a bit of a discovery mission.
Cheers.
The VW auto transmission of the Mk3 era are "sealed for life" with no dipstick to allow you to easily check the level and condition of the automatic transmission fluid. You basically need to take the whole bottom pan off the auto transmission to change the transmission fluid and filters. There is a service port that you can use to top up the fluid level (I understand the correct level is to the bottom of the port and excess transmission fluid will come back out the service port). I have not tried to do this myself (I am planning to send my red Vento auto to the auto transmission specialist to get them to do the transmission fluid change because I do not have the garage or tools to do it myself).
The old kkl vag cables usually come with CD with the software on them (I do not have a cable but I understand that the diagnosic software usually only works with Windows XP not Win7 or Win10).
Another thing to consider changing is the instrument cluster (the auto has the auto gear selection showing in the right hand side of the instrument cluster).
Good luck with the swap or getting the manual sorted out (whichever you decide to do).

There is a lock out in the gear shift mechanism so you can't start the Auto unless it's in Park (or Neutral), I had a mate running in circles wondering why he manual conversion wouldn't start till he jumpered that connection.
