Angry Annoying hub - wheel noob question.

I'm probably posting this up a bit soon, but ran into an issue today and it's making me scratchy.

Putting Audi wheels (TT wheels 5X100) onto VR6 hubs, fronts fit like a glove, but the backs don't fit (all wheels are the same), I replaced the hub/discs in the back from ECS not long ago (OEM VR6), but the old ones I have lying around likewise don't fit into the wheels.

Any experience before I take a series of pretty angry looking power tools to either the hub, the wheel, or just generally to the side of the car :O .

The wheels have a small rise on the inner surface that rests on the hub (like a lip that sticks up just before the very back of the wheel....hard to explain), so that might need to be lopped off, but all wheels have it and it's not an issue in the front.

Has anyone else experienced variations between front and rear hub sizes?

I need to measure and see what isn't 57.1, but any similar experience?

I should add, I tried them without the centre caps and they still didn't fit, it could be the axle cap too, Vortex etc aren't a lot of help.... will get the ruler in the light.

as I said to you earlier, we had the same sort of issue when trying to place my 5x100 to 5x112 15mm adapters with 57.1 centre bore on stus vento. pulled up 5mm short of the hub. im guessing the mk3s centre bore sticks out futher then the newer 5x100 cars (mk4s and a3/tts (where your wheels came from))
Dont know if its possible to run mk4 hubs on the rear? my first suggestion would be to throw some 5mm spacers on there and see if that lets the wheel sit hard on the hub, but from memory you wanted to keep this as legal as possible?

Yeah cheers bud, just posted up to see what the cohort thought. Dunno about mk4 hubs, might have to have a play after my exam (argh).

and yes, would like to keep it as legal/clean/basic/safe etc as possible, would rather not use spacers if pos' since RWC is always fun enough.

    ooo fun times.
wonder if you can cut the mk3 centre bore back a little... because if you modified the wheels to make them fit you can rotate front to back for tyre wear

So it turns out the hubs from ECS are just too big, replaced with others and all is good.

It's odd huh, they can't be for any other car, they're 5X100, same size, and all of 2mm off, but that was enough to scratch some paint off the inside of the wheels. It was driving me nuts because for some reason the A8s would still go on them (must have a bigger centrebore). Paint/protective coat. Now I have to have a whinge to them and work out if its worth posting them back, oh and they also sent me the wrong ABS speed rings.... that was nice too. Cheers to Alex for bringing over a decent set of discs and solving the problem.

Good news is the car has 3 matching wheels (and new Kumho KU31s). Will get a pic sometime, but its all pretty conservative.
