    ABF Question

Had an ABF question that I thought you can help with.

My mate has an ABF in a Mk3 VR6 car. Nice swop, went straight in but there is an extra double connector down by the exhaust gas sensor. does the ABF have 2 sensors or is there something missing. The wires are grey and violet and another one.

The car runs good except if you hold it at 3000 rpm in second whilst driving along it misses and splutters. You can accelerate past it, but it still seems a little bit sluggish and the idle is a bit erratic.
Dunno if the two things are related, but would appreciate any help.

Yep, there's only one Lambda sensor on both OBD1 and 2, so you've got me stumped What part of the harness does it connect to?

Can you get a photo of it, and have you checked for any fault codes?

Only one probe on my 94 mk3 16V. But the violet wire makes it sound like a signal wire. What year is the engine? Maybe they went mad and fitted 2 to later cars??

One think to not there was a spare plug on mine but I m pretty sure it was only a 2 pin. This had a stowage point on one of the rigid plastic pipes near the air filter.

It only has two wires to it, its a 2 pin jobbie. The car is not here, so i dont have a pic.

I`ll check it for fault codes tho.

What about diagnosis of the problem without taking the wire into account?

Have you wired in the OBD port? That would be a good thing to check with VAG-COM.

I am thinking maybe the throttle pot? If the car has been run at a certain position all it's life the pot may be dirty or worn at that particular point. You could find the pins that change resistance with throttle position. Start with a closed throttle and open it slowly while watching the resistance change. make sure it changes smoothly and doesn't have an open circuits or real sudden changes.

Maybe give the TB a clean out as well.

In fact VAG-com is the best thing to check the TB with as it is in the groups.
