You can do that. I'm getting mine all refoamed and upholstered next year; that should fix the comfort problems.

My first visit to the wreckers was earlier this week. I bought a steering column shell for the car and have today fitted it. Its a pretty basic task but I still want to share it! It came with only one of the screws but I got another of appropriate size from Mitre 10 (lucky I work there so I just got one that was lying around ) The only shell had the screw shafts shattered from what looks like a screw that was too large.

    Smashed!

The new shell I bought was in a good condition and I was able to fit it in no time.

Took me a few minutes to fit the screws because they are at an awkward angle. Here is the finished product which I'm sure is a familiar sight for you all.

Now I guess I'll just keep looking for the trim panel I need for my door and the glove box handle.

I got a fair few bits too if in need, reverse gear sounds like a chipped gear, common. As the guys have said the list has common MK3 issues.
