    :\

Saw a front-on vid too, whole front end crumpled up, roof caved in, glass everywhere. BRUTAL!

I was never under the impression mk3's are 5 star safety cars, but at least it appears to defend rear-enders pretty well.

I KNOW that the Golfs are safe!! I have been driving them for 32 years now, this proves it anyway. I have owned all models bar the Mk6. I have crash tested a few as well...... Far safer than a lot of other cars out there. If you ever cut one into pieces you find the shapes and designs of most sections are put together with safety a key issue.
Talking to the bodywork fellas the other day, they were saying that BMW are creating a lot stronger and thicker side sections. So strong and of such a material that the rescuers are now finding that their cutting equipment isnt up to the task now. VW have just started this same technology as well.

wow, that accident description is EXACTLY the same as my mate who was rear ended while driving his cordoba to work - he was giving way to a transit blowing clouds of steam (blown head gasket) when a young girl in a corrolla ran into the back if him, no slowing down.

his SEAT looked about the same (but with a boot, was still perfectly drivable )

hey guys since we're on this topic, here is my VR6 that suffered some big rear end damage when the culprit fell asleep behind the wheel at over 90km/h

IT WAS IN IMMACULATE CONDITION, but not any more. she was my first.

well GIO insurance payed me out and i got to say the front driver and passenger side were ok to protect me however if i had friends in the back seat that would of been either dead or in critical condition.

thankfully the car was parked at 2am and i had found the car approximately 20m down the road.

NB: THE CAR WAS IN 1ST GEAR AND OBVOUSLY HANDBRAKE ENGAGED

the chassis and roof have been completely twisted and buckled.
