Wow, that sucks that she was involved in that but it seemed to hold up pretty well..look at the rear quarters, good to see them do their jobs so well. Hopefully she isn't too shaken up by it all.
Got a call from the ex on monday morning from her "crash" scene.
She was stationary giving way to a water truck and a young girl hit her without slowing. I think she was in a Corolla.
The Golf took the hit quite well, severe crinks in the roof and the floor. I daresay the impact travelled from the spacesaver into the fllor section further forward of the well. Apart from the LHR bodywork on the tyre I reckon it would be driveable still, though very unroadworthy.
Injuries?? The ex is fine, no whiplash or anything, no sores whereas the other driver was taken to the hospital with numerous aches and pains.
Looks like I will be wrecking this perfect Mk3, keep you posted....
We managed to get her into a like new red Mk4 tonight. I will try and get some pics of this pristine Golf shortly.
Somewhere under the rear mat here is the spacesaver...

firstly im glad your missus is ok, thats more important than anything. 80kmh is one hell of an impact. a friend of mine was recently in a similiar crash... morning peak hour coming into the city. waiting at a red light. because of the time of morning and direction the road runs, the sun is full beam in your face so i guess the guy couldnt see and went up the arse of my mates commodore at about 70 or 80 clicks. im glad your golf fared so well, my friends car was pretty much wrecked with the boot just folding into the rear interior.
he is now fighting with the other insurance company over money for rims and the full exhaust he'd just put in the week or so before...
but again, most importantly he was alright. people need to concentrate more when driving, and at lest havewhen driving in mornings or arvos. the sun is a killer
should buff out mate..
seriously though as dc10 said, 80 ks is one hell of an impact for the car to remain like that, good to know nobody was seriously hurt.
That's so disappointing to see mate, I bet you I know the feeling your ex had when she first saw the damage. She's just lucky she can get rid of it without a bigtime loss.
Hope everything goes well. If I think of anything I need I won't hesitate to give you a yell!
That said, if it's got a glovebox I'll have that![]()

its amazing how tough the mk3s are in a rear end collision. I was rear ended by a 2wd hilux and the hilux certainly come off with a lot more damage than my car! nothing compared to this one though. Glad everyone is still ok.
No glove box lid.
Mudflaps?? Noone wants em Gavin. I have 3 genuine sets here still in packets that I tried to sell in the classifieds and got mucked around by all those interested!!
This golf has had 3 rear enders now. O ne occured in an undercover carpark while it was parked. Wrote a 6 week old Astra off in that one.
For such a hard impact I was surprised it took it so well. Cant believe she didnt suffer whiplash.
While working on Pologtis's car today with the crook seat, I was thinking, Hmm, wouldnt want to be in a car with poor seat frames or backrests.....
Doesnt bear thinking about!
By the way, the roadtoll down here is now 52 compared to 29 this time last year..
Drive safe fellas

glad to see no one is hurt. These things have to be the heaviest built golfs out of all.
i was going to order some mudflaps off veedubmachine.co.uk when i placed my order just recently. How much would you ask for them? I just spent more than expected on other parts so i don't want to stuff you around but i might be interested...
Gees Andrew, that's a nasty one! Glad to hear everyone is ok!
My mate got T boned by a drunk (and stoned!!) driver a couple of years ago in his Mk3. His sister was driving and he was in the passenger seat. It pushed them across the other side of the road and into a house (through the corner of it!). They walked away with cuts and bruises. Car held up extremely well. If they were in a lesser vehicle they'd (atleast one of them..) be dead or disabled i'd say.![]()
