    window regulators

hey guys my back left window regulator shat itself by the looks of it, so i was looking around on GAP for them, anyone had any experience with the aftermarket motor and is that a good price from the website compared to local vw places?

also is it a easy install or should i take to a mechanic?

and finally whats the usual delivery time from german auto parts, as this is my daily drive.

    thanks

ive also tried electrolife or something like that. they supplied one for my previous mk3 and it worked a treat.

There is actually a rather ghetto way you can fix the regulator if the little plastic bit that attaches it to the cable has broken, all you need is a cable tie thing. But yes, they are rather easy to put in.

REG: i picked on non VW (but new) one up for $120 in brisbane from a wrecker, had no problems so far, been 1.5 years....

MOTOR: new ones are too expensive, just get a second hand one, fraction of the price, if it fail, get another one..... thats what i did.
$500 for a new one + 6 weeks from singapore from VW dealer
$70 from local wrecker, been in 1.5 years no problem.

INSTALL: I did it all myslef, took about 2 hrs as i took it slow to ensure i got it right, the "hard" bits i found were:
Winding the wire back onto the motor drum keeping it tensioned
If you have tinting on your window, while putting it back it which is a lot of easing around (small gap, big part), put something over your tinting so you don't tear it, damage it. So keep ya window gaffer taped up (doble a piece over it self and onto the window to make a tab and feed thru gap and use it to lower window
The torx screws on the motor, if you have a good allen key your set, otherwise use an old screwdriver and grind a shape on it to fit

Had the same problem, the plastic "guide" bit on the end of the wire snapped off and jammed in the motor which is probably what burned the motor out), used an old spring and a heap of glue to hold it on as a temp fix......
