How do you damage a motor by running a smaller exhaust (Im talking daily driven not raced) ?
4 cylinder mk3s usually ran 1 less muffler as well , also dont quote me but Im pretty sure the piping is the same size .

I think Ben J meant it'd be bad for the motor in performance aspects because it'd be more restrictive and I misinterpreted it thinking he meant it could cause damage. Sorry.

To be honest I'm not sure but regarding the size of the pipes. I have read that they're different but that some 2.0 upgrade to vr?

Fairly sure the 4 cylinders use a smaller diameter exhaust, could be wrong though. I don't really know what affects running a more restrictive than stock exhaust could have on the engine but I doubt it could be anything good, with excessive back pressure and such. Might not cause any serious damage but would certainly atleast steal a lot of power. If the piping is the same size then it should be fine I would imagine. I'm no expert by any means though so could be well and truly wrong and will be the first to admit it if someone brings out some facts, but I know there's no way I'd be putting an exhaust smaller than standard on any of my cars

I'll just do a 3" straight through like all the cool kids, problem solved! Haha. Probably just leave it alone as I have the receipt and the PO did invest $650 in my exhaust system but yes fairly confident 4 cylinder pipe is 2" and vr 2.25" stock as rayray086 said.

In my case, the 2.0L Vento had smaller diameter piping than the VR for sure.

I think you've got the idea, but this would be a downgrade, 2.25 is fine and can sound great.

According to receipts my current exhaust is a 63mm catback sports system. It is loud and it is awesome. But sometimes I think stealth would be cool. If it sounded like all the corolla and pulsar exhausts I hear I'd be going back to stock for sure. But it sounds like a vr6 so all is good

Just get an exhaust shop to pop another resonator in, cheeky hotdog will tone it down a bit without silencing or interrupting pressure etc all that much.

Might ad that to the long to do list. Have you heard about the xforce varex remote systems? They'd be cool but they're very expensive and illegal.
