    2.0 Right inner CV joint

    1. I was told I could replace the split boot on the rt inner cv without removing the axle shaft from the car. Umm, don't think so. Jacked her up, put stands under and undid the bolts, knocked the joint loose and the balls promptly fell out. Hmm, not good, because I can't get enough room for the axle shaft to drop so I can get at the circlip. The shaft only has enough room to move up, but not enough room for me to get at it via the engine bay. Tried raising and lowering both sides of the front suspension but I still can't get the axle to drop past the g/box flange. And, do you think that I can get the balls back in, ha, no way.

Can someone tell me that it can be done? Then tell me how to do it, please.

    2. Also, is it a special socket to get the nut off the drive shaft? Because I think that is the next step. I've tried a 32mm socket but it has a bit too much movement to get a good grip on the nut. Maybe an air tool!

    3. While mucking about with the front end, when I have the weight off the strut, I can grab the spring and move it a few mm fairly easily at the top mount, both sides. Is this normal, or do I have to go and buy lowered springs because they have to come out to check/change the top strut mount..

    Your in D.I.Y. home maint.

Not sure about number 1, but number 2's answer is it's a 30mm nut!

Oh and number 3, I think that it's meant to be tight because you need spring compressors to get the stock springs out...are you experiencing any suspension problems?

Thanks Mickey. Yeah, persevering with removing the axle.

No suspension probs, just found that I could move the strut/spring with no weight on it. This is ok apparently.
