18 inch rims (aristos) on mk3

Well I'm pretty sure most of you hate 18s on mk3s, but I love them. I searched for some threads but couldn't find much, but I'm just wondering what issues there are fitting 18s (rolling guards etc) and how much money/time and effort this would cost to fit these properly without it rubbing all the time. I guess mine would look kind of like this except 4 door and silver rims rather than gold:

rubbing will be no different to a 16x7.5et38 wheel you put on a mk3...
as long as you put the right tyre on. i dont know anything about mk3 tyres, but at a guess you will need something like 215/35/18 max.

Pat, I'm keen on doing the same thing.

As far as I have heard. Running as mentioned above a 215/35/18 will keep your speedo in check and won't rub, but not sure when the car is lowered what would happen.

Another vote from me recommending steering away from 18s, but if you've got it set in your mind you'll ignore us and do it anyway I went 17s on my VR and that's the largest I'd go tbh, any more than that and 35-profile tyres + whatever lowered ride height you desire will be the death of your spinal health. Mine's bad enough on KW V2 coils (6.5/10f and 5.5/10r stiffness) and 40 profiles on the 17s..

You'll definitely need rolled guards front and rear, it'll eliminate a fair amount of scrubbing. Also because OEM Aristos are only 7.5" width, there's not going to be a HUGE difference in how far out the wheel sits compared to stock.

Worst case scenario you try it out and don't end up liking it?

A fella here in wagga had some 18x8 zolders on his vr6 and it looked awesome from some angles and others it made the rims look way too huge, also depends on how low you plan on having your ride. the lower you go the more scrubbing but for me i enjoy it haha.

You will have to run the smallest profile tyre you can, id suggest 205/35/18 or as dylan said 215/35/18

personally i wouldnt go bigger than 17's thats what im running now and i think they are too big some days..

    Either way good luck!
