    1.8 Exhaust options...

Since I got my little Golf I've wanted to get some sort of loud exhaust system fitted. I only ever drove automatics before this car so basically new exhaust systems were a no-go back then.

    So the options are:
    - Headers, high-flow cat, res and a sports muffler.
    - Headers, high-flow cat, NO res and a sports muffler.
    - Headers, NO cat, res and a sports muffler.
    - Headers, NO cat, NO res and a sports muffler.
...and all those options again with stock headers.

Would like to hear opinions and past experiences.

No cat is all good and fun, but the $10,000+ fine is not so much.

I've heard rumors of that insane fine but has anyone actually received it? It's always "I knew this guy..." or "My mate..." lol

...again with the yearly inspections lol, they aren't that serious. I've got rust and a cracked windshield but I'd still pass next year...

But yeah, point taken. I will probably go with a high-flow cat.

Your not wrong. That's the only information I've found. But I'm not willing to test the waters.

I'd just get the outer shell of an old cat welded onto a straight pipe.... Or get a bolt-on cat for my pinkslip.

What about the resonator? How do you choose?

good option is stock header with good quality; high flow cat, resonator and straight through muffler. stay away from poor quality headers. I've seen a few with flanges that do not align properly, prone to cracking, add extra heat in the engine bay and noise into the cabin.
