    1.8 cl clutch kit

The clutch in my 1.8 is starting to slip pretty badly. I'm happy to try and change it myself, but am just wondering where to buy the clutch kit from and how much it's likely to set me back. Is it the same clutch as the 2.0 uses? As they never got the 1.8 in the US all I cam get from the usual stores I use is 2ic.061a stuff.

I got mine through preen, cost me shy of $300 but that was with a clutch disc and pressure plate. To save a bit of money you could actually pull it apart, see what's shagged and replace it, but then your car will be off the road for a while..

I live in a unit with no garage so to do it I'd have to drive up to the parents place in toowoomba and do it, so I'd want to have everything I needed ready to swap in in as little time possible. What actually needs to come out to change it for the 1.8? I knew how to do it for the vr6 but have never looked into the 4 cylinders.

Just noticed some epic auto correct typos in my original post thanks to my ****ty phone. Ill fix them on the computer later, hopefully it still makes some form of sence.

Edit: could it possibly just be a clutch cable or something else? The clutch would engage/disengage when barely being pressed in, alot sooner then anything else I've ever driven.

I wish I could wait it out til I swapped the vr6 in, that was my original plan, but its getting pretty bad, and the vr6 wont be ready for like a year probably. Saving enough to build a na monster 3.0, making little to no money as a uni student, is very hard.

Indeed. Ohwell. Just have to think about how in the first year out of uni could easily be on 3x the pay I was on at my last job, being able to afford whatever I want (to some extent) and will actually be in a job I'm interested in
In hindsight I wish I hadn't of pulled the old vr6 apart and just swapped it in. ohwell.

the design from early Golf on was to dismantle the pass side strut set up, so you can slide the gearbox over enough to undo & repl the clutch.
A kit is about $400 ......then some on ebay
but try Loon the sponsor here @ Camden GTI
lemme know and i can give u a hand ..i have a used one con unknown..

Got some very good advice from someone in a pm and found that Imparts at Eagle farm have the kit for $260 on the shelf, so that's where I'll be getting it from. For future reference, it isnt the same as the 2.0 clutch kit.

I'm going to leave my car here in Toowoomba and get a lift back down to Brisbane as I dont think if I drive it down it will make it back up again, its stuggling to get up mild hills let alone the range now, so hopefully I'll buy the kit in the next couple weeks, then its just a matter of seeing when I can get back up here to change it. If you wanted to head up this way when it comes time for me to swap it that could be very helpful, havent done a clutch before so would probably be best I had a hand, although I'm sure with the bentley manual I could figure it out.
