You know you drive a Mk2 when other GTIs seem to be magically drawn to park next to yours
(Nice little 20 year gap there)
You know you drive a MK2 when you turn on the cabin fan the oil temp goes up 8 degrees instantly.
You know you drive a MK2 when you only drive it on sunny days because when you wash it needs a polish as the paint changes colour :s

Nice one Vista. Your GTI is looking tough.
... When you have to drive with all the windows/sunroof open to get any form of breeze to circulate the hot air inside to the warm air outside!
... When you keep dragging your front spoiler on everything!
... None of the warning lamps work properly!
... When your rear calipers seize (usually in the on position).
... When you try to make your own parcel shelf due to some Chav fitting 6x9's and a doof doof box in the back!
... When you are more than happy to listen to the stereo through 1 speaker.
I reckon it's an earthing issue. I don't take the reading as serious.
Before I replaced the fan swtich, Thermostat & cleaned all the leaves from the fan motor I was a little worried. But I don't use the fan annway, learned to live without

No it still happens, before I replaced those the engine use to sit somewhere between 110-115C (230F) degrees and if I idled for more then 2 minutes it would go off the guage, in my case above 250F (121C) and if I used the fan it would always sit above 250F regardless. Once I replaced the switch & thermo it sits 197-199F (91-92C) and if I use the fan it only goes up about 4-5C so I'm not majorly worried about it now + I don't use it anyway.
As for the leaves, they came from W.A where I bought the car and yeah just clogged the fan making a unhealthy ticking sound if I used the fan.
