    Wheel size on MK2

I need to know if 17's fit on a MK2 GTI without modifying wheel arches. Anyone know?

so many variables i have had 17's on my car (back in the day when i knew nothing about vw stlyin) and they rubbed like mad in my oppinion 17s are to big for the mk2 platform.17s with a high offset and low width you may get away with on standard arches if you havent lowered it???? but everybody knows you gotta be low to the ground to pull off big wheels unless you like the horse drawn wagon look. go for some well wide 15's or 16's width makes up for radius

At the momemt I have 15" x 7" with 195/50 tyres. I have lowered with coilovers and not sure also how low to go. It just looks like the 15's are somewhat small or maybe I need to lower some more? I have always liked big wheels with low profile rubber, not necessarily wide though.

each to there own but just spend an hour looking at mk2 and mk1 on the net and not one well maybe one or even two will be running 17s. you can make 16's look damm big with the rite tyre and suspension choice, you can run low profile rubber on 15's to make a real difference, 16x 8's on my mk2

and some wide 15's 8 on the front 9 on the rear from memory

It's all about the correct offset.
    My mum's Mk2 has 17x7.5 BBS RX ET 35 & 205/40R 17 tyre's
Modified AVO/KONI height, compression & rebound adjustable coilover's & with a full load it barely scrub's and it's low! (can go much lower but it's mum's car!) At it's current height is where the suspension work's best with alittle preload on the spring's!

    I have 15x7 Ronal's with ET 25 with 195/50R 15 tyre's on my Mk1 and I can't put anymore than 2 people in at one time and it scrub's like a bastard!

Do G60 arches differ only on the front or rear too ? How much wider are they than a standard GTI MK2 ?

front and rear are wider but the front is like 3cm wider where as the rear is not so noticable.that jetta above has front arches on the rear as well thats why they look so fat
