    What is a mk2 worth?

    Howdy all,

Been a while since I was last on here, so just wanted to gauge what the going rate for a mk2 is at the moment. I have found a couple, well my old man has, that sound reasonable. Apparently there is a 83 GTI Cabrio in pretty good conodition sitting under a tarp and an 84 hardtop (not sure what variation, however it isn't a GTI). Both cars are just sitting in a shed and apparently need a little work to get them on the road, however pretty reasonable from all accounts.

What do you think is a reasonable price for the pair, or individually?

    Cheers Paul

    Hi.
First of all an 83 cabrio is a mk1, and an 84 Golf is most likely to be an 83 mk1. If it actually is a mk2 from '84 its a very early one, and as mk2's were never officially sold in Australia until '89 in 5-door GTI spec exclusively (all others are imports), i'd say it's highly unlikely that it would really be a mk2.

Unfortunately no-one here will be able to seriously make any attempt at estimating the value of them without some pics at least, let alone an actual physical look over. Its kind of like asking "how long is a piece of string?".

I'd say just go and have a look yourself and if you're still not sure, take some photos and post them up here. Then someone might be able to offer a possible "valuation".

But even then its just going to be a rough idea. They are worth whatever you can get them for!!

    Good luck!

    Depends on the condition,

    Do they run/drive?

    Have you seen them?

When was the last time they were on the road?

Are they both from the same person? (maybe a deal to be done)

If so do you have the time and space to store them and sort them out?

    Lots of Q

Good luck, there will worth the effort!

    84 Mk2, something like this ?? http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...bay-75629.html

A 83 cabrio generally worth around 4K or up, if it is a real cabrio GTI then let me know where it is

As other said, all depend on conditions and how much you are willing to pay, they are not Mk4/5/6, no market value for those cars.

Thanks all for the feedback. Like I said I haven't actually seen the cars myself, hopefully I can get there tonight to have a look. My understanding was the change over date for the mk1 to 2 was 83, however once I see them I will know though.

Once I check them out I will let to all know exactly what they are like.

    Again thanks for the feedback.

    Cheers Paul.

Morning all. I still haven't been able to check out these cars in details yet. However I can confirm that one is a 84 MK2 golf GLI, 5 door. Apparently it is close to RWC and I think it had around 130K's on the clock. The other car is a 83 MK1 cabrio (pretty sure it is a GTI) with about 140K's on it (I think). Sounds like it needs a little bit of work, but still in reasonable condition.

Any thoughts on what I should offer the guy for both cars?

    cheers.

    Ahh, is that this one?

Would you know if the cabrio is injected or carby?
They're both quite old cars, are you after a daily or project/s?

No it isn't that one. Not sure about injection, I would assume carby given the year. Not looking for a daily and wasn't really looking for a project either (I had put my project car idea on ice for a while whilst I am working on some other stuff), however if I can get these for the right price then I might go for it.
