What heads fit a 2e 2 litre bottom end?

With a bit of luck I'll get a 91 MK2 by the end of the month and it currently has a 2e bottom end under the standard head. Long term plan is to convert it to run on LPG because I do over 800 k's a week and gas is cheap. Running a gas carby also makes it easier to fix if I break down.

Since it will be running on gas I don't have to worry about any of the injection or engine management systems so swapping to a 16v head should be an easy job.

What heads suit the 2e block, give better performance and don't cost the earth?

    Cheers

16V heads don't bolt straight on a 2E. All 1800 8V heads will go on it.

I'll stick to exhaust and cam then. Maybe bump the compression to 14:1 if I make it dedicated LPG.

16v heads do bolt on to a 2e block, std 2e pistons don't have the valve recess but they do bolt on.

To run a 16 V head on a 2E you will need to change the intermediate shaft, oil pump, sprockets. Compression will be crap with the 2E pistons and you will need to cut notches in the pistons. You could use ABF pistons if you can find any with the correct diameter grading.

Loads simpler to just bolt up a 1.8 head then go from that...
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,

Definitely not worth the trouble using the 2e block as a starting point.

What's the trick to build a 2.2 litre?
