Hang on a minute, you are wanting to run this on gas because you do 800ks a week. But first spend a small fortune building an engine.........
Have I missed something?

I don't know it costs a small fortune until someone tells me.
I'd still like to know how they do it?

Look on VWvortex, better chance of finding something there. The 2.2 needs a diesel crank, IIRC, as well as oversize pistons and some machining. Which will drive up the price.
Bore and Build Kits
2E engine will cost you $50 bucks, 1.8 head maybe $150. If you want to rebuild the engine and head to guarantee reliability add at least another $1000.
Visit one of your local gas conversion guy's to get the heads up if you need build the engine with mods suitable for LPG.
Still adds up to me to be a pretty cheap build.
If you intend adding cam, H/C pistons etc then add more $$$'s.
Thanks for the info.
The car I'm getting already has a low k's 2e block with reconditioned 1.8 head. I wanted to know what options there were to add more power without getting too expensive and I thought 16v would be the cheapest way to go. My brother does gas conversions so I'll do a dedicated LPG system on the Golf, MK3 downpipe and maybe a cam for now. I should be able to get all that for under $1000.
It's either that or find some 16 x 8 BBS replicas. :P

2E with 1800 head is the best engine in a Mk2.
Looks original, goes awesome and good fuel economy.
Put a cam if you like and hold on.
Sounds good Matt. Make sure you keep those parts I want hidden until I pick them up. :thumb:

Agree with Matt on this... :D
I also agree with Matt, that combo saw my white MK1 get 2:08 lap times at Phillip Island and top speeds of around 180Km/h.
Fantastic amounts of torque for a street car and very reliable.
With cam, carbs and headwork I was pulling 8600 RPM and didn't often ever have the revs below 5000.
There's dyno charts and more info in the wreck to race thread.
this is what my mk2 runs but with a 286 cam.
Only issue is that it "pinks" on current timing settings (6deg advance)
Will be fitting a 3.5 fuel pressure reg and get a Chip for it and try again.
Even on 98 Ron and octain booster it still pinks when warm. Pulls like a train mind ;)
Fuel, its good. MFA show high 6's on my 30 min run every day (mainly highway)
