Fitted two new brackets to the bottom of the cooler and cleaned away a ton of rubber from the inner guards !!!
Trying to find a pin sized coolant leak...I suspect the culprit is the heater core.
I can only smell the coolant when I downshift from 5th to 3rd to take roundabouts at 60mph. Car doesn't run hot (although difficult to tell because the coolant level light flashes ALL the time).
Got to love Golfs!!

Took the mk2 for some spirited country driving along some awesome back roads.
Was great until we hit a nasty potholed section.
Survived.

I think mine is pretty accurate. I sat on 120 most of the way (slowing down for a few country towns brought the average down) and used 43 litres to do around 750 ks. Coming back from Sydney it showed 7.0 litres average for the whole trip.
On the way to work this morning it spewed oil all down the road. Lots of oil pouring out around the oil filter. After taking the filter and oil cooler off I found the o ring on the oil cooler was split. The Golf has a cooler sandwiched between the oil filter and the block and it's cooled by water. These things have a bad reputation so it's coming off. I now need to find a MK1 oil filter holder (the thing the filter screws onto). The one I have has a centre screw/bolt that's way too long now that the cooler is off.
Not happy.

Took it out for a drive today and did about 130 miles.
Great fun
Finally wired up the beesting aerial I fitted last month. Now I can get FM reception all the way to work - even if I do have to switch radio stations half way.
Front bar modifications finally finished.
Should be painted tonight.
Just ordered my big bore induction and short shifter kits. Now to find the time to put it all together!!
Finally re glued the brake light and tidied up the crappy glue left from previous attempts.
