    VR6 widetrack info

Just curious, how much wider the VR6 wide track setup is over the standard mk2 gear.

Is it really only for VR6 swaps? or are there advantages of running the gear with a non vr6 engine? obviously wider track, bigger brakes and 5 lug are VR6 hubs and drive shafts completely different?

It`d be at least an inch wider each side.
JayJays Mk2 has VR6 widetrack and an 8v engine. If the car ever runs, he can report back.

You can do it with passat B3 gear as I am about to do. And there is no need to change to 5 stud hubs.
Apparently it improves handling a lot. BUT you won't be able to get any positive camber on the thing because of the angle that the strut/hub is.
I know of a passat B3 just "wrecked", if you were interested in the same parts.

Why would you ever want positive camber?!

What happens with the rear track when you go wide track at the front ?

VR6 Corrados are 10mm wider each side than the G60, but the standard wheels have the same effective offsets (ET43 on a VR and ET33 on a G60). Not sure if there is any advantage in it when the wheel sits in the same place?

The rear beam is also 20mm wider on the VR6 Corrado, i'm guessing you would have to space out the rear on a Mk2 to do it properly?

You need to space the rear correct. And many ways to do that.

You don't but......apparently the most positive you can get with this set up is about minus 2!!! sooo you'll most likely be running around with no less than minus 2 degrees...

I guess I'll see when I try it.

For road use 1.5 to 2 -ve is as far as you would ever need to go, even at that you will be wearing the inner tread of the tyres.
That would only really be an issue I f you were ever to do heavy track work where you would like to have a bit more.
Is there any way or manufacturing an adjsutable strut top to allow a smaller camber setting?
Ive driven race cars with big camber on the road and they are horrid.

Is the rear beam not also swapped? to avoid running spacers? then you also get vr6 rear brakes.

I think it is possible but the people who I know have done it have just swapped to VR6 rear discs.
You can get a spacer for the rear hub made(ideal solution IMO) and use longer bolts on the rear hubs(hub bolts not wheel bolts).
