Where abouts are you in Melbourne?

Depending on the leads you've got fitted they're pretty generic Bosch items, Repco or Bursons should have 'em. Otherwise VW will have them on the shelf.

VolksBaru in Noble Park, Wolfsburg out Geelong way, Imported parts and panels, Volkspower, Volkscare etc should all have them too.

Or if you're anywhere near boronia I've probably got a few second hand ones lying about.

There's two types, shielded and unshielded, the unshielded type are the same as early beetle, gemini and about every other 4 cyl car that had a bosch dizzy but they take the large simple style of lead connectors.

The shielded type have a pin inside the towers and need the later genuine style leads to connect properly.

Hi Pete, thanks for your prompt reply.

    I live in williamstown mate.....

It is a shielded Bosch one and the RACV man reckons the cap that is fitted is not flush and is ill fitting, hence the sparking. This is leading me to believe it is the wrong cap fitted, maybe a newer version as apparently they changed them in 1991.

The cap on the car now is a black bosch and is orange on the inside, it looks new too....

CHeck that the dust sheild under the rotor isnt turned about.

It's got a locating notch that should sit in the slot in the body of the dizzy.

If it's spun about it'll kick the side of the cap up a bit.

    Tried That mate

tried that mate... the RACV did too, we cleaned it and refit it, he said, with it being loose fitting the electric is coming out to the side...... he said that is worn and too replace it with a whole brand new unit.....

To be honest i dont think he knew what he was doing, he spent half his time spraying the cap?????

    Pete

I have given the VW garage the VIN number and he can order a new one from Sydney for a cost of $71 all up and a 24hr delivery time.....

I might just go down that route, what do you reckon?????

That's a bit exxy, Have a bit of a ring around. That's the same cap as a late 90's Mk3 Golf so it shouldn't be too hard to find one.

I'd be surprised if your local VW dealership didn't have them on the shelf but they might be even more expensive.

For example they're only worth US$14 at germanautoparts.com.

If you're in a hurry go with the $70 option.

Sounds like yours has a crack in it somewhere.

    what do you think Velly????

I have spoken to the spares guy at VW werribee and he advises i need the right one and thinks the one i have fitted is the wrong one.

He matched the Cap to the VIN number and he said they had only 2 in stock and they were in Sydney.

I can't drive it at all at the moment.
