    Unlocking tailgate from inside?

    Hello everyone,

a burglar broke the lock of my Golf's boot last month, hence the question, does anyone know if the tailgate can be unlocked from the inside? I tried to apply graphite into the broken lock but this hasn't helped at all. Any ideas?

    Cheers people!

well, you could try removing the rear plinth altogether, unscrew the four screws holding it on, and if you can see a long actuation rod inside the mechanism pull it and it should release the hatch.

Or you could pry the inner plastic panel of the hatch off gently with a flathead screw driver and fiddle around till you get it.

    Hello Ausgolfer,

    thank's for that,

do you reckon that this can be done several times? Can the boot be locked subsequent to that, you think?

Sadly, management doesn't authorise photos anylonger.

    Cheers.

I removed the lock all together and smoothed over the hole so there is no way to get in from outside.

Ive got an actuator to pop open the boot by remote or from a button hidden inside the car.

I learnt this that hard way when the wire to the actuator broke.
The easyest way to open the boot from inside, take the parcel shelf off and you will see the latch, it will look something like the pic below but should be gold in color. Get a screw driver and simply press the hook thats holding it closed, it should unhook with ease and you shouldnt damange anything. I did it all the time when i was trying to get the actuator to work.

    Cheers spyda, you're the best!

    Hello Spyda,

this is excellant and a big help! I'll go out and try it straight away, mate!

Have been sick of accessing the boot from the inside since it's a 3-door. I probably won't bother to replace the broken lock then unless I find somewhere cheap, someone will break it again. Will let you know how I got on!

Thank's a lot for the pic btw.!

And sorry Peter, I did not upload or attempt to upload any photos for a while and hence was unaware about the changes. Will know for the future.

    Not a problem mate.

Hooking up the actuator isnt to hard, the main trick is geting the wires up the hatch door and in to the car. I used a long coat hanger and a bit of tape to round of the edge and hold the wire so that it doesnt get caught on anything while passing it through the hatch. I earthed the actuator to the same place that the tail lights are earthed (it didnt seem to work anyplace shorter) and ran the positive wire back to the front along the drivers side.

It will take a few hrs but once you get past running the wires through the boot everthing else is prity straight forward.

If you need pics of how its mounted etc, let me know and ill get some.
