    Someone give me some brakes.........

    Hi Guy's,
can somebody recommend some decent brake pads for the front of my MKII, I keep kidding myself they are good and then get into my T4 Syncro and just laugh. Is there a caliper from somewhere that will do a straight swap, that might improve things. And the big one is, what is involved in dumping the prehistoric drum brakes for some disc's ?

    Ever hopefull Dub Rat.

ey welcome to teh forum. is yours a private import? i think all the aussie gti's have rear discs. but anyway, you could consider fitting some mk3 vr6 brakes i think thats a pretty easy swap, theres a few vr6 wrecks sloshing around here that you could swipe the brakes from.

    regards-michael.

Doesn't sound like they are 100%. Bigger brakes won't give you the servoed feel of the T4 though. Are you getting fade or just crap response?

    Thanks.

I will look into what is involved in the change over with the VR6 brakes and will just try some different pads for now. The car is not a GTI unfortunately and was brought in from Japan with 64000k's on it and I picked it up for $4k. Its been great so far, but I had a moment in the wet last week that left me wanting more brakes.

    Thanks for yourr help.

    Mark.

Mk3 Hubs and brakes will bolt straight up and are bigger.
Are your fronts even vented? Maybe not on a low spec import.

I don't think that any of mk2s came here without vented discs

to put mk3 hubs & the 256mm discs that come with the hubs is the easiest brake mod you can do, including a 22mm M/C

there are also other various VAG caliper/carriers that are bigger in diameter with dual pot pistons, that can also be fitted to the mk3 hub at a later date if you still feel the need to stop faster

    cheers Ian

Plenty of private imports that came here were not GTIs and did not have vented diskc. 1.3s and 1.6s for example.

Tell us what model you have mate and whether the brakes are vented.

Mk3 front hubs is still the easiest and cheapest bolt on option.

yep Loon is right, I was asuming that we were taliking about an Aussie import
The most important thing about a mk2 is that it has the correct (5) amount of doors!!!!!!!!!!

Easiest upgrade has to be GTI front discs and matching pads. I am pretty sure the calipers are the same, just the discs are solid.
