I just want it to be in good mechanical order and no
rusting...there are a few people interested in it, I have first viewing on Sat morning...I may have to make the call then and
there!
How do I check the Cv joints?
Is there a place where I can get the optimal temps etc to check with the MFA?
This is my dream ride, I will have a few
G to spend on it I get it at the right price.
Well get under the car and check the rubber boots that are on the driveshafts. If they aren't torn then you are sweet. If they are, drive it at full steering lock in either direction slowly and listen/feel for a knocking in the steering.
Either the MFA will work or not at all. To get mine fixed I just sent off the cluster.
Also check for coolant leaks and ask if the guy has ever put water in there. Also try and listen to see if it makes a tappety sound in the head when running. It's not the end of the world but will just show signs of wear.
I link though my parts guy. I'd give you the details but I've been told I can only deal through my guy to him.
I can sort you out though.
I'm not sure mate the guy has next to no info about it and I am real novice with Golfs...Will try figure it out by looking at pics on net and
comparing them.
Thanks for all the tips guys will try do all that and run it for at least 15mins
to see how it goes...
Hopefully the MFA works so I can see the temps etc
Wish I could pay one of you Golf heads to come out with me...bit of a minefield with a 20yr old car!
today, is it?
hope it all goes well! it'd be awesome if you could get dean from volkspower [or someone similar] to come along with you...
So...It was a bit of a let down.
Rusty as hell radiator, cracked to sh*t dash and brutal damage from some clown fitting stereo, cracked headlight, dodgy windscreen, broken aircon, cracked and damaged grill ( gti badge had been ripped off ) and was sort of revving a bit when it was just sitting there.
Over all the car actually drove ok....considering it had been in storage for over a year.
But at $3800 unreg and no RWC I just dont think its the car for a complete n00b like me.
Will post pics later maybe.
Here is the ebay add

yea, sounds kinda scrappy there, although they're your standard mk 2 problems basically!
imo he wants too much for it. you could get a neat mk 3 with reg and roadworthy for the much (with everything working too!, not that you're after a mk 3 though)
